भोपाल स्वछता सर्वेक्षण की श्रेणी मे दूसरे स्थान पर आता है, परन्तु क्या उसकी प्राकृतिक शक्तिकायम है?
भोपाल स्वच्छ सर्वेक्षण के अलावा प्राकृतिक सुन्दरता के लिए भी जाना जाता है, लेकिन यहाँ के एक दौरे से कुछ और ही प्रतीत होता है। साहित्य का अध्ययन करें तो ये पता चलता है की यहाँ 7 तालाब हैं, किन्तु यहाँ के निवासियों की मानें तो यहाँ 17 तालाब हैं। भोपाल में 10 कृत्रिम तालाब भी हैं, जो भोपाल की सुंदरता बढ़ाते हैं।
इस शहर की प्रगति एक बहुत अच्छे दौर से गुजर रही है। किंतु, विकास के नाम पर यहाँ के प्राकृतिक संसाधनों को क्षति पहुँच रही है। हरियाली और तालाब दोनों का ही जीवन दांव पर है। भोपाल की पहचान देशभर में ‘सिटी ऑफ लेसÓ के रूप में है। यहां का बड़ा तालाब सबसे सुंदर पर्यटन स्थल है। यह शहर की ह्रश्वयास भी बुझाता है। कह सकते हैं कि बड़ा तालाब भोपाल की जीवनरेखा है।
किसी भी शहर के लिए अत्याधुनिक विकास आवश्यक है, किंतु प्राकृतिक संसाधनों के नुकसान पर यह विकास किसी काम का नहीं। विकास की योजनाएं बनाते समय हमें प्राकृतिक संसाधनों की सुरक्षा को भी ध्यान में रखना चाहिए। प्रकृति के अनुकूल ही वास्तविक विकास है।
