A 5-day film-making workshop was organized at Fashion Communication(FC), M.S. University, Baroda in collaboration with National Institute of Mass Communication (NIMCJ), Ahmedabad. This is 2nd consecutive year of the workshop. 10 students of final year from NIMCJ’s Electronic media department and approximately 75 to 80 students from all three years of Fashion Communication participated in this workshop. The basic idea to organize CinePhilia was to make students aware of all aspects of film-making which includes ideation to final production. Students got an opportunity to learn concept design, script writing, shot division, acting, production design, camera work, lighting, make-up, costume, editing, direction, sound etc.
Three teams comprised of students from both the institutes. Totally 4 films of different genres namely-horror, murder mystery, love story, comedy were made. An expert faculty Kaushal Upadhyay from NIMCJ was the main mentor for whole workshop. During these workshop students have gained a good working experience of complete movie making process. Generally, there is an illusion about film making process which is a glamorized one, but during actual shoot many students got to know that it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. Since early morning to midnight students were shooting their films. Professor of Fashion Communication, Ms. Bhakti Patel said “This is really a great chance for all the students to learn practically all the stages of film making like pre-production, production and post-production. Our students were waiting for this workshop since long”. Vrunal Vasulkar and Bhakti Patel were two of the professors who have not only supported the workshop but also worked as actors in these on-going films. Nazish Campwala and Niharika Dave are the two professors who have motivated the teams.
On the occasion of World Theatre Day (27th March), Department of Fashion Communication have planned to screen all these films publicly during 7.00 P.M. to 9.00 P.M. Two experts are invited to judge these four films. Winning team will be awarded medal and certificate.
