સ્વતંત્રતા પછીના સમયકાળના ગુજરાતના પત્રકારત્વથી લોકોને અવગત કરાવતા પત્રકાર, ઇતિહારકાર અને નિબંધકાર પદ્મશ્રી વિષ્ણુભાઈ પંડ્યાનાં ૭૪માં જન્મદિવસ નિમિત્તે ઓમ કોમ્યુનિકેશન – શ્રી માનીશ પાઠક ‘શ્વેત’ દ્વારા ૧૪ સપ્ટેમ્બરના રોજ અમદાવાદના આશ્રમ રોડ સ્થિત આત્મા હૉલ ખાતે ભવ્ય કાર્યક્રમનું આયોજન કરવામાં આવ્યું હતું. આ કાર્યક્રમમાં ઉપસ્થિત દર્શકો અને મહાનુભાવો સમક્ષ પદ્મશ્રી વિષ્ણુભાઈ પંડ્યાએ પોતાનાં ૭૪ વર્ષ દરમિયાન ઘટિત જીવન-કવનનાં સાહિત્ય સફરનાં પ્રસંગોને વાગોળ્યા હતા.

પોતાના જીવનની સ્મૃતિઓ અને ઘટનાઓને તેમણે અંગ્રેજી અક્ષર પી3(P3) વડે દર્શાવી હતી. આ અંગ્રેજી અક્ષરોને તેમણે પ્રયોગો, પરિવર્તન અને પરિભ્રમણ એવું વિસ્તૃતિકરણ કર્યું હતું. તેમણે જણાવ્યું હતું કે તેમનું જીવન પ્રયોગોથી ભરેલું રહ્યું છે. માણાવદરથી જૂનાગઢ અને જૂનાગઢથી અમદાવાદ, જેમાં એલ.એલ.બી.થી એમ.એ. અને એમ.એ.થી એક પત્રકાર બનવાની પ્રક્રિયાને તેમણે જીવનનાં પ્રયોગો કહ્યા હતા. પરિવર્તન શબ્દને પત્રકારત્વ સાથે સાંકળતા તેમણે જણાવ્યું હતું કે વ્યવસ્થામાં પરિવર્તન લાવવા માટે વિદ્રોહ કરવો પડે છે, અને વિદ્રોહ સામેની તૈયારી પરિવર્તનને જન્મ આપે છે.  ત્રીજા શબ્દ પરિભ્રમણની પરિભાષા આપતા તેમણે કહ્યું હતું કે, પરિભ્રમણ એક એવી પ્રક્રિયા છે, જેનાથી સમજમાં વૃદ્ધિ થાય છે. એ.સી. ઓફીસમાં બેસીને તંત્રીલેખો લખવા અલગ હોય છે, પરંતુ વાસ્તવિક સ્થળ પરનું સર્જન અલગ હોય છે. જેથી જીવનમાં પરિભ્રમણનું પ્રયોજન મોટો ભાગ ભજવે છે. આ સર્વેનો સરવાળો કરતા પહેલા તેમણે એક ખૂટતો શબ્દ ‘પ્રેમ’નો પણ વ્યક્તિ, સંસ્કૃતિ, ધરતી, ઇતિહાસ, સાહિત્ય માટે ઉલ્લેખ કર્યો હતો.

જીવનનાં ૭૪માં જન્મદિન પ્રસંગે પચાસ વર્ષથી પત્રકારત્વ સાથે સંકળાયેલા, જીવનની અઢળક સ્મૃતિઓથી સમૃદ્ધ વિષ્ણુભાઈ પંડ્યાએ પત્રકારત્વ સહિત ઇતિહાસ, રાજકારણ અને ભારતભરની સંસ્કૃતિ જેવી અનેક વાતો દર્શકો સમક્ષ રજુ કરી હતી. સ્વાતંત્ર્ય પહેલાનાં પોરસ સેનાનીઓથી લઇ સ્વતંત્રતા પછી ભારતને આગળ ધપાવવામાં મહત્વનો ફાળો ભજવનારા અનેક વ્યક્તિત્વોની યાદ તેમણે પોતાનાં વક્તવ્યનાં માધ્યમે દર્શકો સમક્ષ રજુ કરી હતી.

ભારત માતાનાં મહાન સપૂત અટલ બિહારી બાજપેયી સાથેનો એક વૃતાન્ત યાદ કરતાં કહ્યું હતું કે, અટલજી, મોરારજીભાઈ દેસાઈ, જયપ્રકાશ નારાયણ અને જ્યોર્જ ફર્નાન્ડિસની દિલ્લી સ્થિત જયપ્રકાશ ચોકમાં એક સભા હતી. દરમિયાન પ્લેનમાંથી ઉતારતા અટલજીએ મોરારજીભાઈ દેસાઈ માટે લખેલી એક કવિતા વિષ્ણુભાઈ પંડ્યાનાં હાથમાં પકડાવી હતી. સાર્વજનિક જીવનમાં શબ્દોનો સંવાદ કરતા અટલજીની કવિતાની બે-ત્રણ પંક્તિઓ કંઈક આમ હતી,

“મુજે મોરારજી ભાઈ સે મહોબ્બત હો ગઈ હૈ!

નજર ઊંચી કમર સીધી ચમકતાં રોફ સે ચહેરા;

ભલા માનો, બુરા માનો, વહી તેજી વહી નખરા”

તેમનાં જીવનનો કરુણતમ કિસ્સો જયારે દર્શક દ્વારા પૂછવામાં આવ્યો ત્યારે તેમણે જણાવ્યું હતું કે, જયારે સાધના(મેગેઝીન)નું સામાયિક બાંધેલું લવાજમ પૂરું થઇ જાય છે, ત્યારે તે વાંચકને પત્ર લખી સમયની જાણ કરાવવામાં આવે છે. એવામાં લવાજમ પૂરું થયેલા વાંચકોને લવાજમ પૂરું થતું હોવાનો સાધના દ્વારા પત્ર આપવામાં આવ્યો હતો. પરંતુ ધારકોમાંથી એક ૧૦-૧૨ ભણેલી અર્ધશિક્ષિત મહિલાનો પેન્સિલથી લખેલો સાધનાને પત્ર આવ્યો હતો કે, “તમારો પત્ર મળ્યો કે લવાજમ પૂરું થવાથી હવે સાધના ઘરે પહોંચશે નહીં. પરંતુ તમને નમ્ર વિનંતી છે કે મોકલશો. કારણ કે મારા સસરા જીવતા હતા ત્યારે અમે મળીને લવાજમ મોકલતા હતા. પરંતુ સસરાના દેહાંત બાદ એવું શક્ય નથી કારણ કે પતિ કંજૂસ છે. જેથી મને સાધના મોકલશો કારણ કે તમે લોકશાહીની લડાઈ લડી રહ્યા છો. જે મારી ખીસ્સાખર્ચી મારા પતિ મને આપે છે તેમાંથી બચાવીને હું લવાજમ ભરી દઈશ.” આ ઘટનાં વિષ્ણુભાઈ પંડ્યાને હૃદય સ્પર્શી ગઈ હતી અને પદ્મશ્રી પુરસ્કાર મેળવતી વખતે આ જ ઘટનાં તેમનાં સ્મૃતિપટલ પર અંકિત હતી.

આમ જીવનની હૂંફાળી યાદો સાથે વિષ્ણુભાઈ પંડ્યાનું વક્તવ્ય પૂરું થયું હતું અને ઉપસ્થિત મહાનુભાવો સાથે કેક અને આઈસ્ક્રીમનો આનંદ માણી પોતાનાં જીવનનાં ૭૪માં જન્મદિનની ઉજવણી કરી હતી.
